The first Amaranths made a name for themselves close to a thousand years ago as merchants in the Unova region. The name comes from the hope that their prominence would never fade in addition to the common trait of red hair in their bloodline. At the time, they were able to amass a respectable fortune. With their riches came political favor in the form or a prominent vassalage bestowed upon the family. Over the next century, the Amaranths served faithfully in war on behalf of their lord and this fidelity did not go unnoticed. A brief period of political tumult resulted in the Amaranth family's lord assuming the role of king. For their services, the Amaranths were given their own peerage and a seat at the King's court.

Around 500 years ago, the Amaranths had moved away from merchantry entirely and now grew their wealth by collecting taxes from their loyal vassals. They also served in political capacity as envoys and dignitaries in the regions of Galar and Kalos. Branches of the family had formed in these countries that still persist to this day. Eventually the monarchy would dissolve, but the Amaranths still held a lot of wealth and political agency.

Around 200 years ago, the Amaranths had become known for their prowess as pokemon battlers. They would often perform in exhibition matches to entertain the masses. The family purchased an island within Castelia City's harbor and developed it into a symbol of a prosperous future where Pokemon and humans live in everlasting freedom. This island is now known as Liberty Garden and features a majestic lighthouse and surrounding gardens. Each head of the family in the Unova region takes an oath and is tasked with caring for the island and the secret it hides...

In modern times, the Amaranths are akin to celebrities living in comfortable aristocracy. Amaranths were expected to be skilled trainers to the point that marriages were arranged based on battling skill.
